A Storm Came Up
ready to produce on your stage
It’s the summer of 1963 in a small rural Alabama town and three young boys find themselves caught up in a complex cross-fire between Governor George Wallace, the KKK, the desegregation of the local school system and memories of a murder they witnessed five years earlier. Narrated by the town’s gravedigger who knows all the skeletons in the closets of this small town, the play examines the relationships of the boys and their families during the volatile backdrop of the Jim Crowe south. Heartfelt, humorous and unflinching, this new work lays bare the natural compassion of the human spirit and how it conquers even the the most devilish deeds.

“With the current events happening a play like 'A Storm Came Up' is a very relevant piece of theatre, despite the year it is set. You know right from the word go what this piece means to show to you and it does not let you down. It holds your focus and leaves you wanting more. Although the central topic can be hard one it is thoroughly explored with characters that you can feel for and that makes it a very good piece of theatre. ”

“Powerful, and while set in the 50s-60s, still seems relevant today. Playwright Meanor meticulously draws a world pulled from history, and makes it deeply inhabited with nuanced characters. There are no easy answers for them, especially the flawed Andy. A riveting play right up to the final curtain. ”

"A Storm Came Up" is a superb play. The volatile times in the 1960's in the South are depicted in a way that will truly bring you into the story and is likely to give you a deep emotional reaction. The relationship of three boys and their families, white and black, are powerful and enlightening. From beginning to end, I was totally engrossed in the characters, words and actions, and the culture that existed in these troubled times. I highly recommend this play and look forward to seeing on stage. WELL DONE!!! ”
